How can i help my old dog down the stairs?
I have a ten yr old german shepard who is very large. He does have arthritis and is currently on meds for it, the meds seem to help but he recently slipped and hurt his front paw, since this happened he will not go down the stairs. Once we get him down he comes up just fine. Going outside was his favorite thing to do and a lil less then a week ago he was running to go, now he wont even go down the stairs! Its frustrating the last thing i want is to see my dog suffer with having to go outside. Does anyone have any advice as to how i can help him get down the stairs? I was thinking maybe getting him a harness.Any recommendations?
You can try putting a blanket with a pillow on it at the top of the stairs, have him lie down on it, pull the corners together, and gently slide him down.
I don’t understand the thumbs downs for my answer. I used this method with my 95-pound Chessie, and it worked well. Granted it’s a temporary fix, not like a ramp made of wood or concrete, but it’s certainly inexpensive and was safe & effective for the short term.
